Exciting opportunity for an experienced educator to support students with visual impairments in a contract position close to Kent, WA. As a teacher for the visually impaired, you’ll play an integral role in ensuring all students have access to a meaningful education. This position allows you to collaborate with school staff and families, delivering specialized instruction and advocating for necessary accommodations.

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Current certification or endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
  • Demonstrated experience working with students who are visually impaired or blind
  • Familiarity with Braille, adaptive technology, accessible materials, and specialized instructional strategies
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Ability to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and monitor student progress
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness in diverse educational settings

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction tailored to students with visual impairments across various grade levels
  • Assess and document student needs, strengths, and areas for growth
  • Modify curriculum and classroom materials to ensure accessibility
  • Consult with general education teachers and support staff regarding accommodations and best practices
  • Teach and reinforce independent living and orientation/mobility skills as appropriate
  • Engage with families to deliver updates and support for student success
  • Participate in IEP meetings and maintain detailed, compliant records
