Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Current certification or endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education or related field
- Demonstrated experience working with students who are visually impaired or blind
- Familiarity with Braille, adaptive technology, accessible materials, and specialized instructional strategies
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Ability to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and monitor student progress
- Flexibility and resourcefulness in diverse educational settings
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction tailored to students with visual impairments across various grade levels
- Assess and document student needs, strengths, and areas for growth
- Modify curriculum and classroom materials to ensure accessibility
- Consult with general education teachers and support staff regarding accommodations and best practices
- Teach and reinforce independent living and orientation/mobility skills as appropriate
- Engage with families to deliver updates and support for student success
- Participate in IEP meetings and maintain detailed, compliant records
