Desired Qualifications and Experience:
- State certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Proven experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments, including developing and delivering Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Strong instructional skills in Braille, assistive technology, orientation and mobility, and adaptive materials
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with teachers, staff, families, and related service providers
- Ability to assess, plan, and modify instruction based on student needs and progress
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in varied school settings
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments in individual and group settings
- Collaborate with educational teams to ensure access to the core curriculum through adaptations and accommodations
- Develop and monitor IEP goals and ensure state compliance for each student
- Train and support staff in using accessible materials and assistive technology
- Maintain ongoing communication with families and participate in IEP meetings as needed
- Stay current with best practices and new developments in the field of visual impairment education
