About the Position

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments to provide specialized instruction and support for students who are blind or visually impaired in a school-based setting. The ideal candidate will collaborate with educators, families, and multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized learning strategies that promote academic success, accessibility, independence, and student confidence.

Job Duties

  • Develop and implement individualized instruction plans aligned with student needs and Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals
  • Provide specialized instruction in areas including braille, assistive technology, visual efficiency skills, and compensatory access skills
  • Assess students’ functional vision needs and provide recommendations to improve educational access
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, related service providers, and families
  • Support students in developing orientation, mobility, self-advocacy, and independent learning skills
  • Adapt instructional materials and classroom resources to ensure accessibility
  • Provide consultation regarding accommodations, modifications, assistive technology, and instructional strategies
  • Participate in IEP meetings, evaluations, and multidisciplinary team discussions
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and services provided
  • Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal special education requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field from an accredited institution
  • Valid Massachusetts educator license through the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE)
  • Appropriate Massachusetts license/endorsement for Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments
  • Knowledge and experience supporting students who are blind or visually impaired
  • Knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), IEP development, and special education compliance requirements
  • Experience with braille instruction, assistive technology, and accessible instructional strategies preferred
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work effectively with students, families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Successful completion of required background screening and district onboarding requirements
