Teacher of Visually Impaired in Norfolk, VA

The position is based on a 37.5 hour work week, guiding students throughout multiple schools in the region.
Key Qualifications:
- Current Virginia Endorsement in Blindness & Visual Impairments (non-negotiable)
- Experience teaching or supporting visually impaired learners in educational settings
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Flexibility and initiative in adapting to diverse student needs
- Comfort with technology and adaptive tools for students with visual impairments
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students, K-12, with visual impairments
- Assess student needs and make recommendations for instructional materials and accommodations
- Collaborate with general and special education staff, related service providers, and families
- Develop, implement, and monitor progress on IEPs for assigned students
- Support student independence and access to the curriculum using adaptive technology and orientation and mobility techniques as appropriate
- Serve as an informational resource and advocate for visually impaired students within the district
