Qualifications and Experience:
- Demonstrated experience as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Valid teaching certification/licensure for educating visually impaired students
- Strong understanding of individualized education plans (IEPs) and accommodations
- Proficiency with Braille, large print, assistive technology, and adapted instructional materials
- Excellent communication skills for collaborating with other educators, families, and related service providers
- Creative, patient, and adaptable approach to teaching and problem-solving
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students’ visual abilities and determine appropriate instructional strategies and materials
- Deliver tailored lessons in core subjects and expanded core curriculum for visually impaired students
- Teach Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, use of assistive technology, and independent living skills
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers and support staff to implement accommodations and modifications
- Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instructional approaches as needed
- Actively participate in IEP meetings and contribute to goal setting and progress reviews
- Provide advocacy, resources, and ongoing support to students and their families
