Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) | Omaha, Nebraska

Desired Qualifications:

• Current certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education specializing in visual impairment or a related field
• In-depth knowledge of Braille, Nemeth Code, and assistive technology devices
• Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
• Familiarity with orientation and mobility techniques is a plus
• Strong collaboration and communication abilities with diverse teams

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess students’ vision-related needs and progress; write detailed reports for team review
• Adapt instructional materials and curriculum for students with visual impairments
• Provide direct instruction in Braille reading and writing, use of magnification tools, and adaptive technology
• Partner with classroom teachers to design differentiated lessons and accommodations
• Advise on environmental modifications to ensure accessibility
• Participate in IEP meetings and family consultations to track and support student goals
• Offer training and resources for school staff on best practices for inclusive classrooms
