- Valid teaching certification with specialized endorsement or credentials in teaching students with visual impairments
- Experience working with school-age children in individual and group settings
- Familiarity with braille, assistive technology, and adaptive materials for visually impaired learners
- Ability to develop, adapt, and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with school staff, families, and support personnel
- Organizational skills to manage multiple student needs and schedules
Core Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction in core academic subjects, compensatory skills, and orientation & mobility as appropriate
- Assess student needs, monitor progress, and maintain accurate records in compliance with state and federal regulations
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure accommodations and modifications are in place
- Provide training and consultative support on accessible materials and technology
- Participate in IEP meetings, contribute to student goal setting, and document student growth
- Advocate for the unique needs of visually impaired students, ensuring equitable access to educational opportunities
