Responsibilities
- Provide specialized instruction and educational support to students with visual impairments
- Develop and implement individualized educational plans and goals based on student needs
- Assess students' visual needs and determine appropriate instructional strategies and accommodations
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, administrators, families, and related service providers
- Support students in accessing the general education curriculum and educational materials
- Provide instruction and adaptations related to visual impairment, including accessible learning materials and assistive technology
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development and implementation of student goals
- Communicate regularly with families and members of the educational team
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies to promote student independence and academic success
Qualifications
- Active Massachusetts license or appropriate licensure eligibility as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI)
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Special Education, Visual Impairments, or a related field
- Previous experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired preferred
- Knowledge of specialized instructional techniques, assistive technology, and accessible educational materials preferred
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Passion for supporting students with visual impairments and diverse learning needs
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary educational team
