Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid certification or credential as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or Braillist
  • Strong proficiency in Braille reading and transcription
  • Experience adapting classroom materials for visually impaired students
  • Ability to create individualized education plans (IEPs) in partnership with educators and families
  • Knowledge of assistive technology for low vision and blind students
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Prior experience in a school or educational setting preferred

Role Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction in Braille literacy and use of adaptive devices
  • Modify curriculum and develop accessible learning materials
  • Provide direct support to students, fostering independence and confidence
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to implement IEPs
  • Monitor student progress, document outcomes, and participate in IEP meetings
  • Offer guidance and training to colleagues on best practices for inclusive education
