Desired Skills & Qualifications:
- Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working within school-based or educational settings
- Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation & mobility techniques
- Clear and compassionate communication skills with students, staff, and families
- Ability to design and adapt accessible curriculum and materials
- Collaborative approach to working with IEP teams and related service providers
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, both individually and in small groups
- Develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) in coordination with staff
- Assess students’ functional vision and adapt teaching strategies accordingly
- Provide guidance and training in the use of Braille and assistive technology
- Support general education teachers with strategies to accommodate visually impaired students in the classroom
- Communicate student progress and collaborate closely with families, therapists, and school personnel
