Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, starting August 13, 2026 and continuing through June 30, 2027, with the potential to extend into the summer and following school year. Serve a dynamic, Pre-K through 12 population across approximately 12-15 locations, supporting a caseload of 20-25 students. Flexible scheduling mirrors the school day, with hours that may range from 7:30–3:00, 8:00–3:30, or 9:00–4:00, for a total of 35-40 hours each week.
Qualifications
- Maryland teacher certification or licensure with a TVI endorsement, or eligibility to start the process through the Maryland State Department of Education’s TEACH Portal
- Open to applicants from out of state, with support available for the licensure process
- Experience or strong interest in working with students who are blind or visually impaired, from early childhood through high school
- Strong collaboration skills for working with other TVIs, Braille Transcribers, general and special educators
- Ability to provide specialized instruction and deliver services aligned with IEPs
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specially designed instruction focused on IEP goals and individual student needs
- Conduct thorough assessments and actively participate in IEP development and implementation
- Offer consultation and collaborate closely with colleagues and support staff to ensure comprehensive student support
- Coordinate and guide the work of Braille Transcribers, ensuring accessibility for all students
- Travel between assigned schools as needed to meet caseload requirements
