Bring your expertise as a Braillist and Teacher for the Visually Impaired to support students in an engaging school environment near Bellevue, WA. This contract position is available as soon as possible and extends through June 21, 2024, following the academic calendar. Enjoy a flexible schedule, with opportunities ranging from part-time (0.5 FTE) up to full-time (1.0 FTE), working up to 37.5 hours per week across various sites.
Key Qualifications:
- Washington State License and Certification required
- Fingerprints must be on file with OSPI prior to the start date
- Demonstrated ability to learn and apply braille transcription
- Willingness to work in-person, onsite at district locations
- Thorough understanding of correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Strong organizational, tech, and time-management skills
Responsibilities:
- Transcribe educational materials—including textbooks, workbooks, assessments, and classroom assignments—into accessible formats such as braille, large print, and electronic versions for students with visual impairments
- Create tactile maps and graphs in requested formats
- Maintain accurate electronic files and detailed records for all transcriptions, ensuring materials are ready when students need them
- Adapt classroom materials and collaborate with the teacher of students with vision impairments (TSVI) to meet individual student needs
- Stay current with braille production technology and assistive devices
- Order, track, and maintain an inventory of materials and supplies necessary for the role
- Maintain resource files for alternative media sources
