Embark on a rewarding opportunity dedicated to providing essential educational access for students with vision impairments. This contract position offers up to 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE) and is available immediately through June 21, 2024, following the district calendar. Candidates seeking part-time schedules between 0.5 - 1.0 FTE are also encouraged to apply. The selected individual will support multiple sites and collaborate on-site in person, focusing on creating accessible learning materials as a Braillist/Teacher for the Visually Impaired.
Key Qualifications:
- Current Washington State License and Certification required
- Fingerprints must be on file with OSPI before the start date
- Familiarity with braille and willingness to further develop expertise
- Comfortable working across various district sites, all in-person
- Strong command of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage
Preferred Experience:
- Prior work with students with vision impairments
- Experience or proficiency with tactile graphs, maps, and alternative formats
- Technological adaptability and an eagerness to stay updated on braille production and assistive tech
Primary Responsibilities:
- Transcribe instructional materials, tests, assignments, and tactile graphics into accessible formats (braille, large print, digital) per student needs
- Collaborate closely under the guidance of teachers for the visually impaired (TSVI)
- Organize and maintain labeled electronic files and detailed transcription records
- Ensure timely delivery of adapted materials, keeping students’ schedules and curriculum in mind
- Manage resource inventories and maintain a network of alternative materials sources
- Remain informed on technological advancements in braille and accessible media production
