Step into a meaningful role supporting students with visual impairments in a contract position beginning as soon as possible and continuing through June 21, 2024 (aligned with the school district calendar). This assignment offers flexibility, welcoming candidates seeking either full-time (up to 37.5 hours/week, 1.0 FTE) or part-time commitments (0.5–1.0 FTE). Work will be carried out in person at various district sites near Everett, WA.
Key Qualifications:
- Washington State License and Certification required
- Fingerprints must be on file with OSPI prior to employment
- Ability and willingness to work onsite at district campuses
- Solid understanding or willingness to learn braille and apply alternative media techniques
- Strong grasp of English spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Proficiency with computers and a willingness to stay current with braille production technology
Main Responsibilities:
- Transcribe educational materials such as textbooks, workbooks, assessments, tactile maps, and graphs into accessible formats (braille, large print, or electronic) under the direction of the teacher for students with visual impairments
- Ensure careful adaptation of classroom materials to fit individual student needs
- Keep detailed and organized records of all materials transcribed and maintain properly labeled electronic files for future reference
- Manage inventory and order necessary supplies.
- Remain resourceful by maintaining an updated reference file for alternate sources of materials
- Meet deadlines by efficiently managing time to provide students with necessary materials
