Key qualifications and requirements:
- Active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) endorsement
- Demonstrated experience teaching or supporting visually impaired students, preferably in school settings
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with staff, students, and families
- Ability to work effectively across different elementary and middle school environments
- Reliable transportation for travel between assigned locations
Position responsibilities:
- Provide direct specialized instruction and consultation for students who are blind or visually impaired according to their individualized education programs (IEPs)
- Adapt curriculum and materials to ensure accessibility
- Conduct assessments and progress monitoring related to visual impairment
- Collaborate with general educators, special education teams, and families
- Implement best practices in technology, orientation, and mobility for students with visual impairments
- Maintain documentation and complete reports in accordance with district and state guidelines
This role is structured as an itinerant, part-time, onsite opportunity, running from August 11, 2026, through May 24, 2027. You’ll manage a varied caseload, making a difference across a range of age groups and learning settings.
