Teacher for the Visually Impaired | Essex, Maryland
Make an impact by empowering students with visual impairments to achieve their academic goals. In this full-time contract opportunity, you’ll collaborate with a dedicated team—including five other Teachers for the Visually Impaired (TVIs) and an Orientation & Mobility specialist—to deliver specialized instruction and support across multiple school sites as directed by each student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
With a weekly schedule of 37.5 hours across five days, you’ll join a vibrant, collaborative group of professionals focused on making education accessible for every learner. Your expertise will contribute directly to student growth and independence in an inclusive, resource-rich environment.
Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification for Visually Impaired students required
- Additional credentials in Orientation & Mobility (O&M) are a plus, but not required
- Experience working with students who are visually impaired, preferably in a school-based setting
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with special education teams and families
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and consultative support as specified in IEPs across a cluster of schools
- Develop, adapt, and implement instructional materials for students with visual impairments
- Collaborate with other TVIs, O&M staff, educators, and related service providers
- Participate in IEP meetings and maintain accurate documentation of student progress
- Advocate for students’ access, ensuring all educational materials and environments are accessible
