Support students with visual impairments in a dynamic educational setting as an Itinerant Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI). In this contract position, you'll play a crucial role, working across various school locations to ensure learners have access to the tools and instruction necessary for academic success and independence. This assignment begins as soon as possible and extends through June 4th, 2027, offering a predictable full-time schedule of 35 hours per week.
Key Qualifications:
- Active South Carolina teaching certificate with Visual Impairment (VI) endorsement
- Experience supporting K-12 students with visual impairments in educational environments
- Solid understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and appropriate instructional strategies
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Commitment to advocacy, equity, and fostering inclusive learning environments
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments across multiple school locations
- Assess student needs and develop individualized educational plans in collaboration with IEP teams
- Adapt curriculum materials and recommend/implement assistive technologies and accommodations
- Deliver Braille instruction and teach skills related to orientation, mobility, and independent living as appropriate
- Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, therapists, and families to support student progress and inclusion
- Monitor student performance and maintain thorough, timely documentation
