This assignment starts as soon as possible and continues through June 4th, 2027, offering a stable, rewarding, long-term commitment. The position follows a 35-hour work week, with a diverse schedule that allows you to impact classrooms throughout the district.
Qualifications:
- Valid South Carolina teaching certificate with a Visually Impaired (VI) Endorsement (required)
- Proven experience as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, preferably in K-12 settings
- Strong knowledge of braille, assistive technologies, and adaptive strategies for visually impaired students
- Ability to manage an itinerant caseload and travel between school sites as needed
- Excellent communication, organization, and collaboration skills
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction in braille, orientation & mobility, and adaptive technology
- Collaborate with general education teachers to develop and adapt curriculum materials
- Assess and monitor student progress, maintaining detailed records to ensure goals are met
- Advocate for student needs and participate in IEP meetings as required
- Offer guidance and training to school staff and families regarding visual impairment support strategies
