Key Qualifications:
- Valid South Carolina teaching certificate with a Visually Impaired (VI) Endorsement (required)
- Experience working as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) in school settings preferred
- In-depth understanding of braille instruction, adaptive technology, and accessible curriculum design
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to travel between multiple schools as part of an itinerant schedule
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction adapted for students with visual impairments, ages and grade levels assigned by the district
- Conduct assessments to identify student needs, develop learning goals, and track progress
- Collaborate with general and special education teachers to integrate accommodations and modifications into the classroom
- Provide training and support to staff and families on best practices and use of assistive technology
- Maintain thorough documentation, progress reports, and compliance with district and state requirements
- Advocate for students and participate actively in IEP meetings and student support planning
This contract position begins as soon as possible and continues through June 4th, 2027, offering a consistent schedule of 35 hours per week. Travel within the district is expected, with school sites assigned as needed.
