Qualifications:

  • Valid Massachusetts Department of Education license as a Visually Impaired Teacher (VI Teacher License)
  • Successful completion of all required MTELs (Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure)
  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired, preferably within school settings
  • Ability to assess student needs and develop individualized instructional strategies
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and fellow educators
  • Flexibility and adaptability in changing educational environments

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments in person
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique strengths and challenges
  • Modify and adapt curriculum materials for accessibility
  • Collaborate with general education staff and related service personnel to foster inclusive classroom environments
  • Provide training, consultation, and resources to staff and families regarding best practices in vision education
  • Track student progress, maintain accurate records, and participate in IEP meetings
