Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid and active Massachusetts Department of Education license as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (VI Teacher)
- Successful completion and passage of MTELs (Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure)
- Experience working with school-aged students who are blind or visually impaired
- Ability to design and adapt curriculum and materials to meet diverse visual needs
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, students, and families
- Flexibility to commit to a full-time or part-time schedule, working fully onsite
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, both in individual and small group settings
- Assess student needs to develop and implement effective, personalized educational goals
- Adapt classroom materials and learning environments for optimum accessibility
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers, aides, and support staff to integrate students effectively
- Educate and consult with school staff and parents regarding strategies and tools for the visually impaired
- Stay current with best practices and legal requirements in special education and visual impairment services
