Make a meaningful impact as an educator for students with visual impairments in a supportive school environment. A contract opening is available for a dedicated professional to provide specialized instruction and support, beginning September 1, 2026, through June 14, 2027. The position offers both full-time and part-time options and is based onsite.
Qualifications:
- Current certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (VI Teacher License)
- Valid Massachusetts Department of Education (MA DOE) teaching license
- Successful completion of MTEL exams
- Experience adapting curriculum and instructional materials to meet the needs of students with visual impairments
- Strong communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, families, and support staff
- Ability to foster an inclusive and positive classroom environment
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver instruction and adapt educational materials for students who are visually impaired, tailored to individual learning objectives
- Conduct assessments to determine students’ needs and monitor progress
- Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and consult with other educators regarding appropriate accommodations
- Provide direct support and specialized training in orientation, mobility, and use of assistive technology
- Serve as an advocate for accessibility and ensure compliance with legal and educational standards
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current on best practices for visual impairment education
