This position offers flexible hours, accommodating both full-time (up to 37.5 hours/week) and part-time (0.5–1.0 FTE) schedules, with coverage available immediately through the end of the school year on June 21, 2024. Assignments will take place at various district locations, providing an engaging variety of learning environments.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Washington State License and Certification required
- Fingerprints on file with OSPI prior to start date
- Strong willingness to work onsite, in-person across assigned campuses
- Ability to learn, understand, and demonstrate proficiency in braille
- Knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Experience with, or willingness to learn, braille-related assistive technologies
Key Responsibilities:
- Transcribe academic materials—including books, tests, workbooks, and classroom assignments—into braille, large print, or electronic formats
- Create tactile maps, graphs, and other adapted classroom resources as needed
- Maintain well-organized, labeled electronic files and accurate records for all transcriptions
- Manage workflow to ensure all materials are available for students when required
- Collaborate with Teachers for the Visually Impaired (TVI) to adapt content
- Stay current with technology utilized in braille production and assistive devices
- Order and track supplies needed for creating alternative media
- Maintain and update a reference file for sourcing braille, large print, or digital resources
