This contract position offers up to full-time hours (up to 37.5 hours per week), with flexible options for part-time schedules based on your availability. Work on-site across various school locations, creating a rich, accommodating instructional experience for students.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid Washington State License and Certification required
- Fingerprints must be on file with OSPI prior to your start date
- Comfortable working in-person at school sites
- Willingness and ability to learn and use braille in materials preparation
- Familiarity with or willingness to gain skills in adapting educational material for students with visual impairments
- Strong knowledge of English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation
Core Responsibilities:
- Transcribe and adapt classroom materials—including textbooks, worksheets, and assessments—into braille, large print, tactile maps/graphs, or electronic formats for students
- Keep accurate records of all transcriptions and ensure all electronic files are carefully maintained and labeled for future access
- Manage time effectively to supply adapted resources as needed to support instruction
- Collaborate with the lead teacher of students with visual impairments (TSVI) to adapt and review materials that best meet student needs
- Stay current on technology for braille production and actively use related assistive technologies
- Maintain and order necessary supplies for transcription work
- Build and organize a resource file to locate alternative braille, large print, or electronic materials as needed
