Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid credential or certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or equivalent Braillist certification
- Demonstrated ability to provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, including those who are blind or have low vision
- Proficiency in literary and Nemeth Braille code, with the ability to adapt classroom materials accordingly
- Experience conducting functional vision assessments and supporting the development of IEPs
- Strong communication skills to effectively partner with multidisciplinary teams and families
- Commitment to inclusive education and differentiated instructional practices
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored instruction in academic and non-academic subjects, focusing on Braille literacy and adaptive technology
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify curriculum and ensure accessibility
- Assess students’ visual needs and monitor progress toward their educational goals
- Provide consultative support and professional development for school staff
- Prepare and transcribe Braille materials and adapt visual classroom content
- Advocate for students’ success in both classroom and community settings
