Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) | Sanford, Florida
Step into an essential role supporting K-8 students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in a vibrant contract position near Sanford, FL. This full-time opportunity (35 hours weekly) spans the 2026–2027 school year, working across two closely located schools within the Lake Howell and Lake Mary clusters. You’ll provide specialized instruction and advocacy for students with visual impairments, fostering their academic growth and independence in elementary and middle school settings.
Your daily impact will include collaborating with educational teams, developing individualized education plans, guiding classroom teachers on best practices, and offering direct instruction to a manageable caseload of 12 students. Assignments are mostly within a paired cluster of schools, making your day-to-day transitions efficient. While handling three schools in a day is uncommon, flexibility is appreciated as student needs change.
Qualifications:
- Valid Educator Certification with a Vision endorsement
- Demonstrated experience teaching or supporting visually impaired students
- Strong understanding of IEP development and progress monitoring
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary school teams and families
- District-mandated background check, fingerprinting, and credentialing requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored instruction and adaptive learning strategies to students with visual impairments
- Assess student needs and adapt curricula or materials for accessibility
- Consult with educators and staff to modify classroom environments and instruction
- Maintain detailed documentation of student progress and program implementation
- Contribute to a supportive, inclusive learning environment
The assignment runs from August 10, 2026, through May 25, 2027. Specific caseload details, including grade placements and student assignment, can be customized to your expertise and availability. Candidates meeting qualifications will participate in a prescreen interview as part of the application process.
