Key Qualifications:
- Certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (VI Teacher) is required
- Experience in instructing students who are visually impaired across varied age groups
- Proficiency in sign language interpretation and utilizing adaptive instructional techniques
- Knowledge of current best practices, assistive technology, and accommodations specific to visual impairments
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with families
- Familiarity with ARD (Admission, Review, and Dismissal) meetings and the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Organized and adaptable to address the unique needs of caseloads spanning multiple school levels
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction tailored to students with visual impairments in elementary, middle, and high school settings
- Design and implement lessons using methods and materials aligned with district requirements
- Conduct both formal and informal assessments to monitor student growth and adjust strategies accordingly
- Serve as a knowledgeable participant in ARD meetings, preparing necessary documentation and advocating for student needs
- Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to ensure students receive comprehensive educational support
- Employ and recommend adaptive technologies and resources to facilitate student learning and engagement
