Key Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (VI Teacher) is required
  • Experience in instructing students who are visually impaired across varied age groups
  • Proficiency in sign language interpretation and utilizing adaptive instructional techniques
  • Knowledge of current best practices, assistive technology, and accommodations specific to visual impairments
  • Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with families
  • Familiarity with ARD (Admission, Review, and Dismissal) meetings and the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Organized and adaptable to address the unique needs of caseloads spanning multiple school levels

Role Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction tailored to students with visual impairments in elementary, middle, and high school settings
  • Design and implement lessons using methods and materials aligned with district requirements
  • Conduct both formal and informal assessments to monitor student growth and adjust strategies accordingly
  • Serve as a knowledgeable participant in ARD meetings, preparing necessary documentation and advocating for student needs
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, and families to ensure students receive comprehensive educational support
  • Employ and recommend adaptive technologies and resources to facilitate student learning and engagement
