Qualifications:

  • Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential with authorization in Visual Impairments, or a California teaching credential authorizing instruction for visually handicapped students (EL CLAD)
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting diverse student needs
  • Collaborative, communicative, and flexible approach to teamwork

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct, individualized instruction to students with visual impairments based on identified educational needs
  • Adapt and modify curriculum materials using Braille, large print, tactile, and digital tools
  • Consult and collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to enhance accessibility and inclusion
  • Monitor student progress, conduct assessments, and participate in IEP meetings
  • Advocate for appropriate accommodations and teach essential skills for independence
  • Maintain thorough records and provide regular updates on student achievements
