Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) | Vero Beach, Florida
Step into a rewarding contract role supporting visually impaired students in a dynamic educational environment. This position calls for a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) with a passion for inclusive learning who can make a significant impact. The assignment covers five schools, working closely with a caseload of 12 direct-service students (across 690 weekly service minutes) and two consults, creating a varied and engaging work experience. The role starts this October and extends through June of the following year, with a full-time schedule of 35 hours each week.
Your expertise will be essential in teaching Braille and other adaptive strategies to students aged K-12 with visual impairments. Flexibility and organization are vital, as you’ll serve students across multiple campuses, tailoring instruction to their unique learning goals.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid FL DOE Teacher for Visually Impaired certification
- Proficiency in Braille instruction
- Experience supporting visually impaired students in a school setting
- Strong collaboration and communication abilities
- Ability to travel between multiple school sites
- District fingerprint clearance (or eligibility via AHCA Clearinghouse)
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized and group instruction in Braille and technology for visually impaired students
- Assess student progress and adapt instructional plans to meet IEP goals
- Partner with classroom teachers and caregivers to create accessible learning environments
- Maintain accurate records and documentation to support student achievement
- Provide consultative services to staff regarding vision-related accommodations
