Step into a rewarding and impactful contract role supporting students with visual impairments in the Denver area. As a full-time educator working Monday through Friday, you’ll partner with a diverse caseload ranging from early childhood education through high school. This position is set to begin July 31, 2026, and continue through May 26, 2027, where you’ll serve students across multiple sites within the district.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
- Valid Colorado DOE certification with an endorsement in “Special Education Specialist – Visual Impairment (ages 0-21)”
- Master’s (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution in special education visual impairment or equivalent
- Experience working with a range of ages, from ECE to high school
- Strongly preferred: O&M (Orientation & Mobility) Certification
- Ability to pass district background check and fingerprinting requirements
- Commitment to fulfill contract duration and provide consistent support
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive vision-related assessments and interpret findings
- Determine eligibility for disability services for students birth to age 21
- Develop and adapt Individualized Education Programs personalized to each student
- Provide specialized instruction and teach essential skills related to visual impairment, blindness, and deaf-blindness
- Adapt materials and classroom environments for optimal student access
- Deliver orientation and mobility instruction in school and community settings
- Collaborate closely with families, teachers, and district personnel
- Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to all district compliance standards
- Value professional communication and work in alignment with district priorities
