Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Active Colorado Department of Education certificate with endorsement in “Special Education Specialist – Visual Impairment (ages 0-21)”
- Master’s degree or higher in special education visual impairment, or an equivalent as determined by the department
- Experience with vision-related assessments and developing IEPs for students with visual impairments
- Preferred: Orientation & Mobility Certification (not required, but advantageous)
- Willingness to complete district background check and fingerprinting
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct and interpret functional vision assessments and Expanded Core Curriculum evaluations
- Determine student eligibility for educational disability services from birth through age 21
- Write and implement comprehensive, individualized IEPs targeting each student’s visual needs
- Provide specialized instruction, including orientation and mobility skills, to students with a range of abilities
- Adapt class materials and environments for accessibility, ensuring equal learning opportunities
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and district staff to support student growth and align with district priorities
- Maintain compliance and accurate student records, including required HR documentation
