Qualifications:
- Current Colorado Department of Education certification: “Special Education Specialist – Visual Impairment (ages 0–21)”
- Master’s degree or higher in special education visual impairment (or equivalent)
- Experience serving ECE through high school students preferred
- Orientation & Mobility Certification preferred, but not required
- Successful background check and fingerprinting
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess and interpret vision-related abilities and develop individualized education programs (IEPs)
- Deliver direct, specialized instruction and support for visually impaired students, including those with multiple disabilities
- Adapt curriculum, classroom environments, and materials to ensure accessibility
- Teach essential skills for independence, orientation, and mobility in school and community settings
- Collaborate with parents, educators, and district staff to monitor progress and uphold best practices
- Maintain thorough records and compliance with district guidelines
