Key Qualifications:
- Active Colorado Department of Education Certification with endorsement in “Special Education Specialist – Visual Impairment (ages 0-21)” (required)
- Master’s degree or higher in special education visual impairment or an equivalent field from a regionally accredited institution
- Completion of district background check and fingerprinting requirements
- Orientation & Mobility (O&M) certification preferred but not required
- Previous experience working with visually impaired students across a range of ages (birth–21) is highly valued
Essential Responsibilities:
- Perform vision-focused assessments and Expanded Core Curriculum evaluations to determine eligibility and plan educational services
- Develop and implement individualized education programs tailored to meet specific visual and developmental needs
- Provide direct instruction on essential skills for students with visual impairments, blindness, or deaf-blindness, including academic support and orientation/mobility training
- Modify classroom environments and adapt educational materials to enhance accessibility and learning outcomes
- Collaborate with parents, school personnel, and district staff to align goals and share student progress
- Maintain comprehensive records and ensure compliance with district and licensure documentation standards
This contract position is full-time (Monday through Friday, 35 hours per week), running from late July through late May. As the assignment is district-based, the number of schools covered will be determined by district needs, supporting a diverse student population within the Denver area.
