Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairment, or eligibility to obtain
- Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, ideally within school environments
- Proficiency in teaching Braille, assistive technology, and orientation & mobility techniques
- Strong collaboration skills for working with families, classroom teachers, and support staff
- Flexibility and creativity in adapting curriculum materials to meet individual student needs
- Excellent communication and record-keeping abilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver both direct and consultative instructional services to students with visual impairments
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with IEP teams
- Assess and address students’ academic and functional vision needs through formal and informal evaluations
- Instruct students in Braille, large print, tactile graphics, assistive technology, and daily living skills as needed
- Recommend and facilitate use of adaptive equipment and technology
- Provide staff and family training on best practices and accommodations for visually impaired learners
- Maintain comprehensive records of student progress and services delivered
