Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification with a specialization in Visual Impairment
- Previous experience working with K-12 students who are blind or have low vision
- Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive educational tools
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with staff, students, and families
- Familiarity with current best practices in special education and sensory support
- Organizational skills to manage caseloads and maintain detailed records
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to students with visual impairments across grade levels
- Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and parents/guardians
- Modify curriculum materials and adapt classroom environments as needed
- Provide training in assistive technology and Braille literacy
- Advocate for students’ access and inclusion in extracurricular activities
- Monitor student progress, updating goals as necessary
