Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Proven experience working with children or adolescents with visual impairments
- Knowledge of Braille, low vision devices, adaptive technology, and instructional strategies for diverse learners
- Strong communication skills to consult with teachers, families, and other specialists
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Flexible and resourceful, with a passion for student advocacy and inclusion
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative instruction to students with visual impairments in individual and group settings
- Adapt curriculum materials using Braille, enlarged print, audio, or tactile resources as appropriate
- Conduct functional vision assessments and provide recommendations for accommodations
- Serve as a resource for classroom teachers, offering guidance on best practices and accessibility
- Monitor student progress, document outcomes, and contribute to IEP meetings
- Support the transition of visually impaired students between grade levels or new educational settings
