1:1 Long-Term Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Chatham, IL
Make a meaningful impact by supporting students in need of specialized instruction as a dedicated educator for visually impaired children. This rewarding, full-time contract role focuses on providing one-on-one instruction and support to a pediatric student in a school setting. As an on-site professional, you will be instrumental in helping your student thrive academically and personally.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) required
- State certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Previous experience working with pediatric populations preferred
- Ability to design individualized lessons and adapt materials for low vision or blind students
- Strong communication and collaborative skills
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive, empowering, and supportive classroom environment
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized instruction and educational support to a visually impaired student
- Collaborate closely with general education and special education staff to deliver the student’s IEP goals
- Adapt curriculum materials and create accessible classroom resources
- Offer orientation and mobility training as appropriate
- Maintain thorough documentation and submit progress reports in a timely manner
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding student progress and needs
- Cultivate independence, confidence, and self-advocacy skills in your student
