Empower a student with significant visual needs by providing specialized instruction and support throughout the academic year. This itinerant, part-time contract role is ideal for experienced educators passionate about making an impact in the lives of students with visual impairments. Located near Cicero, IL, you will work closely with one student, collaborating with teachers and staff to ensure optimal learning experiences and accessibility.
This position runs from August to June, with a flexible schedule of 20 hours per week (Monday through Friday), allowing you to maintain a positive work-life balance while dedicating focused attention to one student’s individualized needs.
Desired Qualifications:
- Credentials as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) or Visually Impaired Teacher, meeting local certification requirements
- Demonstrated experience supporting students with significant and complex needs
- Knowledge of Braille instruction, assistive technology, and adaptive materials for visual impairment
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with general education teachers, parents, and support staff
- Ability to travel between sites, as needed, to deliver services in various learning environments
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide direct, individualized instruction to support the student’s academic, functional, and sensory needs
- Develop and adapt instructional materials, resources, and assessments for visual accessibility
- Collaborate with school teams and families to monitor progress and update Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Train and consult with staff on strategies and best practices for supporting students with visual impairments
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of delivered services and student progress
Compensation ranges from $37 to $43 an hour, based on experience and skill set.
