As the teacher for this role, you’ll work Monday through Friday on a part-time basis, dedicating 20 hours a week to providing individualized support and adapting learning materials for a single student with substantial needs. Your expertise in meeting the challenges of visual impairment will be central to fostering academic progress, independence, and confidence.
Key Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid teaching certification for Visually Impaired Students (TVI) or eligibility to obtain
- Proven experience supporting students with significant visual impairments, preferably in school settings
- Strong skills in developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Proficient in utilizing assistive technology and adapting curriculum materials for accessibility
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, especially in itinerant roles
- Flexibility to travel between locations if needed as part of service delivery
Role Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support based on current IEP goals
- Collaborate closely with general education staff, support professionals, and families
- Advise and model strategies to promote independence and academic achievement
- Ensure the student’s access to learning environments, materials, and technology
- Document progress and participate in scheduled IEP meetings
