Teacher for the Visually Impaired - Des Plaines, Illinois

As an itinerant educator, you’ll collaborate with school teams while traveling within the district to deliver specialized instruction and advocacy for one student—enabling learning, independence, and growth.
This position begins in August and continues through June, offering you Monday through Friday scheduling, with a total of 20 hours each week. Your expertise and dedication will be compensated at a competitive rate between $37 and $43 per hour, adjusted for your experience and skill set.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching certification for Visual Impairment/Education of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Proven experience working with students who have significant visual or multiple disabilities
- Strong understanding of assistive technology and adaptive instructional strategies
- Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and educational teams
- Ability to develop individualized education and transition plans
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support based on students’ IEP goals
- Adapt curriculum materials and classroom environments for accessibility
- Assess the student’s needs and progress, providing ongoing feedback and recommendations
- Train and consult with classroom teachers and support staff
- Advocate for the student’s inclusion, independence, and necessary accommodations
