Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Denver, CO
Embark on an impactful contract opportunity as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired serving students across a range of grade levels, from early childhood through high school. This full-time, onsite position starts July 31, 2026, and extends through May 26, 2027, offering a 35-hour workweek, Monday through Friday. You’ll make a difference within a dynamic district-based setting, providing essential vision education services to students throughout the Denver area.
Qualifications:
- Current Colorado Department of Education certification with endorsement for “Special Education Specialist – Visual Impairment (ages 0-21)”
- Master’s degree or higher in special education visual impairment or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution
- Experience supporting students birth-21 with visual impairments in educational environments
- Preferred, but not required: Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Certification
- Commitment to fulfilling the entire academic year
- Eligibility to complete background check and fingerprinting
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct functional vision and Expanded Core Curriculum assessments to guide education planning (30%)
- Craft and implement individualized education plans for eligible students
- Provide ongoing specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairment, including those with additional disabilities (30%)
- Deliver or coordinate orientation and mobility training across community and school settings
- Create accessible learning environments through material adaptation and classroom modification (20%)
- Collaborate closely with educators, families, and district staff, ensuring goals align with district priorities (15%)
- Maintain accurate records and complete compliance-related requirements
- Carry out additional duties as needed (5%)
