Step into a rewarding role as a dedicated professional supporting students with visual impairments in the New Orleans area. In this contract position, you will play an essential role across multiple school sites, helping to ensure visually impaired students receive the instruction and services tailored to their needs. This rewarding opportunity spans from August 3, 2026, through May 27, 2027, with a consistent 35-hour work week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Travel daily to multiple school sites to deliver direct instruction and support for students with visual impairments.
- Facilitate and interpret the needs of visually impaired students, providing in-service training for school personnel.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, preparing and adapting reading materials and resources, including special textbooks, in accessible formats.
- Maintain proactive communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and actively participate in professional meetings as needed.
- Procure and utilize assistive technology, ensuring educators and students can fully benefit from available tools.
- Offer Braille instruction and provide guidance in orientation and mobility (preferred).
- Stay organized while managing communication and service delivery across several sites.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and active Louisiana DOE Certification with Visual Impairment endorsement.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings.
- Proficiency with assistive technology and instructional methods for the visually impaired.
- Capability in Braille instruction; experience with orientation and mobility training is highly valued.
- Exceptional communication, organization, and analytical skills.
- Ability to transport oneself across assigned school locations.
- Successful completion of district drug screening and fingerprinting credentialing requirements.
