An exciting contract opportunity is available for a dedicated professional specializing in vision education, serving as an itinerant teacher for visually impaired students. You will facilitate specialized services and provide crucial support, ensuring each student with visual impairments receives the resources and guidance they need to succeed in an inclusive educational environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and active Louisiana DOE certification, including visually impaired endorsement required.
- At least 3 years of experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings.
- Demonstrated expertise in Braille instruction and a strong understanding of assistive technologies for the visually impaired.
- Familiarity with orientation and mobility training preferred.
- Outstanding communication and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate, train, and offer in-service workshops to school staff.
- Strong data analysis and problem-solving abilities.
- Professional demeanor with proven experience managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to travel daily across district sites and supply your own transportation.
- Compliance with time-sensitive district credentialing, including a drug screen and fingerprint background check.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instructional support and intervention for visually impaired students.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to prepare materials and ensure accessibility.
- Obtain specialized textbooks/materials and facilitate the use of assistive technology.
- Maintain ongoing communication with colleagues, families, and state education representatives.
- Provide professional development and training to school staff regarding the needs of visually impaired students.
- Complete documentation and other tasks as assigned by program leadership.
Position Details:
- 35 hours per week, following the school calendar.
- Itinerant position serving multiple sites (age groups and specific schools to be determined).
