Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in the New Orleans area. This contract role spans the academic year, beginning August 3, 2026, and running through May 27, 2027, for 35 hours per week. As an itinerant professional, you’ll travel to various school sites, ensuring visually impaired students receive individualized services and advocating alongside a dedicated team.
Your day will include facilitating vital supports, interpreting the unique needs of each student, providing direct instruction (including Braille), and helping secure specialized materials and textbooks. Collaboration is at the heart of this role—you’ll communicate regularly with classroom teachers and the Louisiana Department of Education, lead in-service training, and champion accessibility.

Desired Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and active Louisiana Department of Education certification for the visually impaired (required)
- At least three years of experience in elementary, secondary, or special education environments
- Expertise in assistive technology and Braille instruction
- Familiarity with orientation and mobility training is preferred
- Excellent analytical and communication skills, with a talent for fostering positive culture and inspiring others
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively juggle multiple priorities
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between school sites
Responsibilities Include:
- Providing direct instruction and support for visually impaired students
- Coordinating specialized materials, collaborating with classroom educators, and preparing accessible reading resources
- Leading in-service staff training on best practices and support methodologies
