Make a meaningful impact by supporting students with visual impairments as a dedicated educator in a contract role for the 2026–2027 academic year. This position offers the opportunity to provide direct services to visually impaired students across various sites. With a 35-hour workweek, you’ll enjoy a structured daytime schedule and the flexibility of an itinerant assignment serving multiple age groups.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and certification in teaching visually impaired students (Louisiana DOE certification required)
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings
  • Proficiency and hands-on experience with assistive technology tailored for visually impaired learners
  • Capable of delivering Braille instruction and, ideally, familiar with orientation and mobility training
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a talent for inspiring both students and staff
  • Strong analytical skills, enabling effective data-driven decision-making
  • Professionalism and disciplined judgment when balancing priorities
  • Independent, self-motivated attitude with a proven track record of achievement

Responsibilities:

  • Travel daily to multiple school sites, offering direct instructional support and services
  • Serve as a liaison to facilitate communication between special educators, classroom teachers, and the Louisiana Department of Education
  • Adapt and supply learning materials for visually impaired students
  • Train teachers and school staff, ensuring proper accommodations are in place
  • Maintain close contact with relevant stakeholders, including participation in in-service training and ongoing dialogue with administration
  • Fulfill all other duties as assigned by leadership

All applicants must successfully complete district-mandated credentialing, including drug screening and fingerprinting, as well as internal pre-screening.
