Teacher of the Visually Impaired in Gretna, LA
Exciting opportunity available for an experienced educator specializing in teaching students who are visually impaired! We’re seeking a dedicated professional to provide support to high school learners in the New Orleans area on a contract basis, with flexible scheduling options for both part-time and full-time availability. You will serve as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI), working closely with students to deliver personalized instruction, including the use of Braille. Ideal candidates will bring a strong background in specialized instructional strategies and experience with adaptive technology.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid credentials as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with high school-level students
- Proficiency in Braille instruction; braillist experience valued
- Familiarity with adaptive devices and technology for visually impaired learners
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Open to both full-time and part-time commitments
Responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and group instruction for visually impaired high school students
- Develop and adapt curriculum materials, including Braille transcription as needed
- Collaborate with general education staff, families, and support personnel
- Assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly
- Support the use of assistive technology in the classroom
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment
