As a key resource for both students and faculty, you’ll facilitate learning, promote independence, and coordinate critical interventions across multiple sites.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree and active Louisiana Department of Education teacher certification for the visually impaired (required)
- At least 3 years of experience in elementary, secondary, or special education
- Track record of student achievement in diverse and challenging situations
- Demonstrated expertise in assistive technology for the visually impaired and Braille instruction
- Strong collaboration skills and proven ability to lead, inspire, and support both students and staff
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities
- Familiarity with orientation and mobility training (preferred)
- Current drug screening and fingerprint clearance (or willingness to complete for licensure)
Key Responsibilities:
- Travel to multiple school sites daily to provide direct services to visually impaired students
- Assess and interpret individual needs, adapting instruction and materials for optimal student success
- Offer ongoing training and support for general education teachers and support staff
- Maintain up-to-date communication with educational teams and relevant agencies
- Procure and manage specialized instructional materials, including accessible textbooks
- Deliver Braille instruction and utilize assistive technology to empower student participation
- Perform additional duties as outlined by the Director of IDEA
