TVI - Kenner, LA
Make a meaningful impact supporting students with visual impairments in the New Orleans area. This contract position offers the unique opportunity to provide specialized educational services as an itinerant teacher, traveling to multiple school locations each week to facilitate learning and ensure accessible instruction for students in grades K–12.
Responsibilities include:
- Traveling daily to assigned schools to deliver direct instruction and services to visually impaired students
- Collaborating with general education teachers to ensure materials are presented in Braille or other suitable formats
- Acquiring and adapting specialized textbooks and learning resources
- Training school personnel to support students’ unique needs and fostering awareness through in-service sessions
- Maintaining ongoing communication with the Department of Education and the Director of IDEA
- Offering expertise in assistive technology and guiding both staff and students in its effective use
- Providing Braille instruction and, ideally, support with orientation and mobility skills
- Keeping thorough documentation and managing a dynamic caseload
Qualifications for this role:
- Bachelor’s degree and current Louisiana DOE certification for Visual Impairment required
- Certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience working with elementary, secondary, and/or special education students
- Demonstrated expertise in assistive technology, with the ability to coach others
- Outstanding communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to inspire, motivate, and influence varied audiences
- Professionalism, flexibility, and resourcefulness
- Ability to provide your own reliable transportation and meet physical requirements of the position
