TVI - Kenner, LA
Empower students while making a meaningful impact in the New Orleans area! Bring your skills as an itinerant Teacher for the Visually Impaired to provide essential support across multiple school sites for the 2026-2027 academic year. This contract position runs from August 3, 2026, to May 27, 2027, and offers a consistent, full-time schedule: 35 hours per week with a 7-hour day plus 30-minute unpaid lunch.
Responsibilities in this dynamic role include traveling to assigned schools, facilitating and interpreting service needs for visually impaired students, and providing in-service training to school personnel. You’ll ensure visually impaired students receive the necessary supports, secure appropriate textbooks and instructional materials, and maintain regular contact with classroom teachers to prepare reading materials in accessible formats. Regular communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and occasional duties as assigned by the Director of IDEA are part of the scope. Direct services to students, Braille instruction, support with assistive technology, and collaboration on orientation and mobility training further round out your impactful work.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and active Louisiana DOE certification with specialization in visual impairment.
- At least three years’ experience in elementary, secondary, or special education settings.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills across diverse environments.
- Expertise with assistive technology for the visually impaired and proficiency in Braille instruction; orientation and mobility training experience is a plus.
- Excellent time management, professionalism, and the initiative to work independently.
- Ability to provide transportation to multiple sites.
- Completion of drug screening and fingerprinting required by the district.
