Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid MA Department of Education Teacher License specific to Visual Impairment
- Successful completion of MTELs (Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure)
- Experience working with children and adolescents with visual impairments in academic settings preferred
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with visual needs
- Strong communication skills and collaborative approach with families and multidisciplinary teams
- Commitment to fostering independence and accessibility for visually impaired students
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting curriculum and materials for accessibility
- Assess functional vision and learning media, recommending appropriate tools and technologies
- Consult with classroom teachers, aides, and families to support student integration and success
- Conduct ongoing documentation, progress monitoring, and participation in IEP/504 meetings
- Serve as an advocate for students’ needs in the school community
- Stay informed of best practices and resources in visual impairment education
