This onsite contract opportunity begins in early September and runs through mid-June, serving students in a supportive, specialized school environment near Methuen, MA. Both full-time and part-time schedules are available.
Key Qualifications:
- Current MA Department of Education license for Teacher of the Visually Impaired (VI)
- Successful completion of MTELs as required by the state
- Experience or strong interest in working with students with visual impairments in school settings
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with educators, families, and support teams
- Ability to adapt instructional strategies to meet the diverse needs of students
- Commitment to fostering student independence and access
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instructional and consultative services to students with visual impairments
- Assess students’ functional vision and learning needs in educational contexts
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and educational staff to modify curriculum materials and learning environments
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each student
- Teach compensatory skills, such as Braille, use of adaptive technology, and orientation & mobility in collaboration with specialists
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute expertise for effective educational planning
- Maintain accurate documentation and progress records in compliance with state and district requirements
