This full-time, onsite contract opportunity offers the chance to work directly with students from Early Childhood Education (ECE) through high school, advancing inclusive education and specialized support in a district-based role. With a 35-hour workweek, Monday through Friday, you'll collaborate with a dedicated network of educators and families to help students thrive.
Desired Qualifications:
- Active Colorado Department of Education certification with endorsement for Special Education Specialist – Visual Impairment (ages 0-21)
- Master’s degree or higher from an accredited institution in special education visual impairment or closely related field
- Preferred candidates also hold Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Certification, though this is not required
- Comprehensive understanding of functional vision assessment, IEP development, and state/district requirements for visually impaired instruction
- Strong communication skills to facilitate collaboration with families, educators, and related services providers
- Ability to commit to the entire school year
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct, interpret, and report vision-related assessments; assist with eligibility determinations across a full age continuum (birth-21)
- Develop and implement effective, individualized student education plans
- Provide specialized instruction focused on visual impairment and offer academic and functional skills support
- Adapt classroom materials and environments for optimal accessibility
- Deliver orientation and mobility training as needed
- Collaborate with school teams and communicate progress, needs, and recommendations to all stakeholders
- Ensure ongoing compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines by maintaining accurate and timely documentation
