Key Responsibilities:
- Travel to various schools daily as an itinerant teacher, ensuring services reach all assigned students
- Assess, facilitate, and interpret the unique educational needs of visually impaired students
- Deliver direct instruction, including Braille and assistive technology, tailored to each student's requirements
- Prepare adapted learning materials and coordinate with classroom teachers to foster inclusive learning environments
- Offer in-service training to school personnel to support visually impaired students’ success
- Maintain collaborative communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and school staff
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Director of IDEA to support student and team goals
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree with active Louisiana DOE certification and specific certification in visual impairment
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching in elementary, secondary, or special education settings
- Strong proficiency in assistive technology for visually impaired learners
- Capable of teaching Braille; orientation and mobility training is a plus
- Detail-oriented, adaptable, and able to manage multiple priorities with professionalism
- Strong communication skills and the ability to motivate and support both students and colleagues
- Must pass district-specific drug screening and fingerprinting, as well as standard credentialing requirements
- Reliable personal transportation required for daily travel to campuses
